Website upgrade

We are delighted to announce the rollout of an upgrade to the website software and the server hardware.  The new software release is largely behind the scenes and is designed to improve the security and stability of the system.  The server upgrade is also designed to improve performance, and ensure that our systems remain "future proof" as more and more clubs use the ClubNet website.

Because of the server transfer, some users may experience an error when they first try to access the website after the upgrade.  This may be because:

  • a cookie may have been set on their browser, but this is no longer valid on the new server.  This will typically only apply where a member has forgotten to log out at the end of their previous session on the website.  In this case, they will see a "Server Error" message and the member will need to delete the cookies in their browser.  If they need help with how to do this, there is some guidance available but users use this at their own risk and should check with an IT expert before proceeding if they are not sure what to do

  • their browser is still looking at the old server to try to load the page, when the site is no longer live on the old server.  In this case, they will see the old "Web Server's Default Page" and the member will need to force the page to reload by pressing Ctrl+F5 on their keyboards; if this does not work, they will need to clear their browser cache.  If they need help with how to do this, there is some guidance available but users use this at their own risk and should check with an IT expert before proceeding if they are not sure what to do

The upgrade is being applied in stages, with some clubs already live on the new server.  Other upgrades will follow over the coming days and weeks as we monitor the rollout.

Website server upgrade - TONIGHT

As a reminder of our earlier notification, the website server is being upgraded tonight.

The server move will start at 3am. The server will be shut down resulting in a period of downtime.  Once tested and re-installed in the new data center, the server will be checked, booted and then re-connected to the Internet.

During the move, the server may be offline for up to four hours.

Although we do not expect any issues to arise, it would be wise to ensure that you have backups of all relevant content from your website to enable your club to function in the event that the maintenance overruns.

Twitter Widgets have changed

On 11 June, Twitter withdrew their old "widget" - the bit of code which enables you to display your Twitter timeline, or other Twitter feeds, on your website. If you had such a section on your website, you may notice that it has disappeared. The good news is that you can get the widget back using the new code from Twitter, but you need to follow the following steps:

Commenting on News Posts

We're pleased to announce that we're rolling out an enhancement to the commenting functionality on news articles.  Now, logged in members can comment on a post and subscribe to comments on a particular post (in which case they will receive email notifications when a comment is made).  The nominated club email address will also receive a notification whenever a comment is made.

This enhancement also includes a fix for a problem which had prevented users posting comments on some sites.

This rollout has been applied to a number of sites already, and will be completed for all sites in the near future.  Do get in touch if you have any queries about this upgrade.

New MailChimp Integration

Many of our clients have already experienced the benefits of MailChimp, a powerful and easy-to-use email newsletter system. MailChimp can even collate news articles from your club ClubNet website and send them automatically to your members on a weekly or monthly basis!

I'm delighted to announce that using this is now even easier, as we've developed an automatic integration between MailChimp and the Membership Database system.

So now, your member data can be synchronised automatically into MailChimp - no more manual extraction of the data and manual uploading into MailChimp. Once the new feature is setup for your club, this all happens automatically in the background. This will:

  • Save administration time
    AND
  • Ensure your data is kept up to date and accurate

The add-on to automate this process costs £30 + VAT to set up and £30 + VAT per year.

Special Offer

For our existing Database clients who already use MailChimp, we're offering FREE SETUP to help with the transition - i.e. a SAVING of £30 - for clubs who opt in by the end of May (i.e. within the next 2 weeks). Call us on 0330 900 1121 or email us to take up this special offer.

Find Out More

If you haven't yet explored the benefits of MailChimp and want to find out more, give us a call on 0330 900 1121 or drop us an email
